Is Binance available in Portugal? MiCA status and alternatives (October 2026)
Short answer
The transitional period under the EU’s crypto-asset rules ended on 1 July 2026, and ESMA told unauthorised crypto-asset providers to stop onboarding new EU clients and wind down their EU activities in an orderly way. By our check of ESMA’s register on 21 October 2026, Binance has no EU authorisation, and on 24 June 2026 Binance said it had withdrawn its application with the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC) in Greece. So we show no Binance sign-up button for Portugal. Authorised alternatives are below. Checked 21 October 2026.

What changed in the EU on 1 July 2026
ESMA’s public statement of 23 June 2026 refers to “the end of the transitional period under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation on 1 July 2026”. It says unauthorised providers must “immediately stop onboarding new EU clients” and that ESMA expects them to wind down their EU activities in an orderly manner. It also invites clients to verify whether their provider is authorised under the EU rules in the ESMA Register. We follow that route and report what the register shows, with the date.
Binance and EU authorisation
We downloaded the whole ESMA CASPS file on 21 October 2026 and searched it for “binance”: there is no match, and the same search on 8 October 2026 found none. Binance has no confirmed MiCA authorisation in the canonical registry (status EU_RESTRICTED).
On 24 June 2026 Binance published that it had decided to withdraw its licence application with the HCMC, and that it was in the process of contacting all of its EU users. We did not find an official Binance page describing service changes for users in Portugal, so we do not describe any.
Is Portugal on Binance’s restricted list?
No. Binance’s List of Prohibited Countries, updated 5 January 2026, names the United States, Canada, the Netherlands and a set of sanctioned places. Portugal is not among them. “Not on the list” does not mean “available”: the list is only one of the facts that decide whether we show a sign-up link, and the EU authorisation status above is the other.
Why there is no sign-up button here
We show a sign-up link only where our evidence covers the country and the exchange is authorised there. For Portugal the EU authorisation condition is not met for Binance, so this page has no button, no referral code and no bonus. Our neutral page on Binance referral codes explains how we treat codes in general. We do not suggest ways around a provider’s country rules.
Authorised alternatives in Portugal
The ESMA register has rows for Bybit EU GmbH (FMA, Austria, authorised 28 May 2025, Portugal among its host states) and OKX Europe Limited (MFSA, Malta, 27 January 2025). See our pages on Bybit and OKX. This is a register fact, not a recommendation, and a register entry says nothing about fees, products or fit for you.
