Does Binance work in Ghana? VASP Act 2025 and licensing

Published · updated

Does Binance work in Ghana? Short answer

Checked on 20 October 2026. Ghana is not named in Binance’s List of Prohibited Countries (updated 5 January 2026), which also covers other locations Binance designates from time to time. Under Ghana’s Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2025 (Act 1154) providers will need to be licensed or registered once the Act takes effect (commencement date not found), and in our check we did not find Binance in Bank of Ghana or SEC Ghana materials. This page shows no Binance sign-up button, and we publish no code for Ghana.

Ghana’s VASP Act 2025: who must be licensed

The Bank of Ghana says Parliament passed the VASP Act on 19 December 2025, and its virtual assets page describes Act 1154 as the legal foundation for the sector. SEC Ghana’s notice of 29 December 2025 says everyone conducting virtual asset activities will need to be licensed or officially registered. The Act gives regulatory roles to the Bank of Ghana and the SEC, and the SEC says both will issue guidelines to put it into operation.

For existing operators the Bank of Ghana FAQ describes a period to comply once the law takes effect, with sanctions for operating without authorisation afterwards. We did not find the effective date or the length of that period. The Bank of Ghana also says the law targets service providers, not individuals trading on their own behalf. That is a statement about who is regulated, not advice on whether any exchange may serve you.

Is Binance licensed or registered in Ghana?

By our check on 20 October 2026 we did not find Binance in the Bank of Ghana virtual assets page, the VASP FAQ, SEC Ghana’s press release or the sandbox notices. The SEC’s list of 19 August 2026 names the virtual asset sandbox participants; Binance is not among them. A sandbox is not a licence either way. We therefore make no claim that Binance is licensed, registered, banned or legal in Ghana.

Cedis (GHS), P2P and Mobile Money on Binance

A Binance blog post dated 30 November 2020 says Binance added Ghanaian cedis to its P2P platform in June 2020 and launched Mobile Money support for GHS P2P trading. That is a 2020 statement, and current availability is not verified. The post does not name a provider, and we do not name one either.

Why we show no Binance button for Ghana

We show no sign-up link or code for Binance in Ghana because we could not confirm Binance’s status under the new law. Do not give a false country or use someone else’s identity to get around a restriction or a check.

What we could not verify

We did not verify the date the Act takes effect, the application process (the Bank of Ghana page states its application page would be available by the end of Q3 2026, and we did not verify whether that date was met), current GHS P2P offers and payment methods, or crypto tax treatment (the Ghana Revenue Authority capital gains page does not mention crypto in our check). We do not recommend other exchanges for Ghana, because we have not checked any of them for this country. For how we check facts, see How we verify and the editorial policy.
