Bybit in Sri Lanka: restricted list, CBSL and card limits

Published · updated

Sri Lanka is not on Bybit’s own list of restricted countries, and Sri Lanka’s central bank has said that cryptocurrency is unlicensed and not legal tender. Both statements are true at the same time, and a visitor from Sri Lanka needs to see both. Below: what each source says word for word, what it does not say, and what we could not check. This page carries no sign-up button for Sri Lanka.

Short answer: is Bybit available in Sri Lanka?

Checked on 21 October 2026. Sri Lanka is not named on Bybit’s list of service-restricted countries, last updated on 16 October 2026. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) said in a press release of 29 March 2023 that it has not licensed any person or business to operate cryptocurrency schemes, that cryptocurrencies are not legal tender, and that debit and credit cards are not permitted to be used for payments related to cryptocurrency transactions. We give no legal verdict, and we found no CBSL statement naming Bybit.

Is Sri Lanka on Bybit’s restricted list?

Bybit’s Help Center article on service-restricted countries was last updated on 16 October 2026. It names the United States, Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada, North Korea, Cuba, Iran, Uzbekistan, Crimea and Sevastopol, the non-government controlled areas of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, Sudan and Syria. It also lists Dubai as not served in the case of Bybit Virtual Asset Platform Operator LLC (VAPO) only. Sri Lanka is not in the list.

A restricted list is not a licence. It tells you where Bybit itself declines to serve users. It says nothing about what Sri Lankan authorities allow, and the list can change at any time.

What the Central Bank of Sri Lanka says

The CBSL press release “Risks of using and investing in Cryptocurrency” is dated 29 March 2023. We quote the lines that matter and add nothing to them:

  • “CBSL has not issued any licence or authorized any individual or business to operate schemes involving cryptocurrency.”
  • Cryptocurrencies “are not considered as legal tender in Sri Lanka”.
  • Cryptocurrencies are “unregulated investment instruments which are not recognized as an asset-class in Sri Lanka”.
  • “Electronic Fund Transfer Cards (EFTCs) such as debit cards and credit cards are not permitted to be used for payments related to cryptocurrency transactions.”

The release is more than three years old. We did not search for later CBSL notices or other Sri Lankan rules, so a newer statement, law or circular may exist that this page does not cover; check CBSL’s own website. The release does not name Bybit, and it does not say that holding or trading crypto is a crime. We do not translate it into “legal” or “illegal”. If you need that answer, ask a lawyer in Sri Lanka.

Paying in Sri Lanka: cards, LKR and P2P

The CBSL line about EFTCs is the reason this page never says “pay by card”. On Bybit’s side, the fiat list dated 3 October 2026 names Sri Lanka in the SEPA (EUR currency) and SWIFT (PLN currency) restricted-country rows. Bybit’s column is labelled “Restricted KYC Countries”, so the restriction applies to users whose KYC country is Sri Lanka; we do not say what it means for payment instruments issued elsewhere. We could not find an official Bybit page about Sri Lankan rupee (LKR) deposits or an LKR P2P market, so we say neither yes nor no.

Referral code and what we do not cover

Our code on bybit.com is CCHUB, but this page has no sign-up button for Sri Lanka and states no bonus amount. We have not confirmed which documents Bybit accepts from Sri Lanka, and we publish no fees for this country because we have no dated official fee page that we have read.

  • Sri Lanka’s central bank says cryptocurrencies are unregulated, so complaints and recovery of funds may not follow the rules that apply to licensed financial products.
  • Cryptocurrency prices can fall quickly, and you can lose all of the money you put in.
  • Do not give a false country or someone else’s identity to get around a restriction or a check.
  • We did not open a Bybit account from Sri Lanka or test sign-up, deposits or withdrawals.
  • We did not verify Sri Lankan tax rules, the Bybit Card, or any local payment partner.

This page is not legal, tax or investment advice. Our rankings are independent of whether an exchange pays us; see How we verify.
