Is Sri Lanka on Binance’s prohibited list?
No. Sri Lanka is not named in Binance’s List of Prohibited Countries, “Updated - 5 January 2026”. The list names the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Crimea, the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic, plus “such other locations, as designated by Binance from time to time”. The Binance App region list “updated on August 18, 2026” shows Sri Lanka as “Available”. That is about app availability. It is not a licence from the CBSL.
What the Central Bank of Sri Lanka says (29 March 2023)
In its press release of 29 March 2023 the CBSL said it “has not issued any licence or authorized any individual or business to operate schemes involving cryptocurrency”. It also said that “cryptocurrencies are not considered as legal tender in Sri Lanka” and that they are “unregulated investment instruments which are not recognized as an asset-class in Sri Lanka”. A CBSL notice of 14 January 2024 repeats that cryptocurrencies are unregulated in Sri Lanka, are not legal tender, and that the CBSL has not licensed or authorised any crypto operations. We checked it on 24 October 2026; verify the current position on cbsl.gov.lk before relying on it.
Debit and credit cards (EFTCs)
The same CBSL statement says that Electronic Fund Transfer Cards (EFTCs) such as debit cards and credit cards “are not permitted” in this context. We do not advise paying by card and do not describe any payment method for Binance in Sri Lanka, because we have no source for LKR buying or P2P on Binance today.
Why there is no sign-up button here
This guide has no sign-up button. We show a sign-up link only where our evidence covers the country and the exchange, and for Sri Lanka we also have the CBSL statement above. Do not use a false country or someone else’s identity to get around a check or restriction.
How we checked
