Who operates Binance for New Zealand users

The Binance New Zealand site names the operator as Binance New Zealand and gives the FSP number FSP1003864. We did not open the FSPR entry itself, so we state no legal entity, status or registration date.

What FSPR registration means, and does not mean

The FMA’s OIA response says: “Registration on the FSPR is not a licence and is not subject to any typical licensing requirements or assessment.” It also says the Registrar has not referred any information connected to Binance’s FSP registration to the FMA. For that reason we never describe Binance as licensed in New Zealand. The letter carries no date, so we cite it with our read date only.

Is New Zealand on Binance’s prohibited list?

No. The list updated 5 January 2026 names the United States, Canada and the Netherlands, then Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Crimea, DNR and LNR. New Zealand is not named. The list is open: it adds “such other locations, as designated by Binance from time to time”, so check the current list before you register.

Buying crypto with NZD

Binance’s New Zealand FAQ (last updated 2 May 2025) says it supports Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay. It warns that some banks may classify crypto transactions as quasi-cash payments, resulting in additional fees. We found no official Binance page for NZD bank transfer, so we say nothing about it.

Taxes on crypto in New Zealand

Inland Revenue states that cryptoassets are treated as a form of property for tax purposes and that the treatment depends on their characteristics and use. We give no tax advice and no calculations.

What we have not verified

We have not opened the FSPR entry for FSP1003864, and we have no source for an NZD bank transfer, the eligibility and terms of any New Zealand sign-up offer, or a trading fee. We state none of them. We add a sign-up link only after a Binance-specific check of the New Zealand registration flow, so this page has no button.
